Background
Dr. Ziaul Abedin is a seasoned civil servant and economic strategist with over 27 years of distinguished service in the Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration Cadre, 18th Batch). He began his career as an Assistant Commissioner and Magistrate, gaining early experience in field administration and policy implementation.
Over the years, he has built a reputation for leadership in macroeconomic policy, debt management, and public financial reform. He has served in senior roles at the Ministry of Finance, including leading the development of the Medium Term Debt Management Strategy (MTDS), and contributed to key financial reform reports. His career also includes diplomatic assignments in Tokyo, oversight of international policy initiatives at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and leadership at the Institute of Public Finance Bangladesh (IPF).
Currently, Dr. Abedin serves as Additional Secretary, Finance Division, leading the Budget‑1 Wing and advising on national economic strategies including fiscal policy of the Government. His expertise combines practical field insights with high‑level policy formulation, reinforcing his reputation as a key architect of Bangladesh’s financial governance framework.
