Background
Mr. Gary Tarrant is a seasoned legal and regulatory professional with over three decades of international experience across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with Economics from the University of Sussex and a Post Graduate Diploma in Law (PGDL) from Nottingham Trent University, UK. He is also a qualified Solicitor of England & Wales. His career spans leadership roles in corporate governance, legal affairs, and regulatory strategy within the BAT Group and beyond.
Date of Appointment to BATB Board
Mr. Tarrant was appointed as a Non-Executive Director to the Board of Directors of BAT Bangladesh PLC on 29th March 2023.
Achievements
- 2025–Present: Elevated to Group Head of Regulation at BAT Headquarters in London, serving on the Group CORA Leadership Team and shaping BAT’s global regulatory strategy.
- 2020–2024: Served as Regional General Counsel and Head of Legal & CORA for Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa (APMEA), driving strategic agendas, spearheading LEX transformation, and building high-performing teams.
- 2013–2020: Held senior roles within BAT’s Legal & External Affairs (LEX) function, including Head of LEX for Korea & Taiwan, Head of Commercial Legal in the UK, and Head of Legal for the West Africa Area.
- 2011–2013: Undertook first international assignment as GCC Legal Counsel in Dubai.
- 2004–2011: Joined BAT Group at Globe House as Senior Trademark Manager, later expanding responsibilities to provide legal counsel to the Group Marketing function. Qualified as a Solicitor of England & Wales in 2006.
- 1999–2004: Transitioned to private practice, establishing a trademark division at a London law firm.
- 1993–1999: Began his career at Unilever’s London headquarters as a registered trademark attorney.
