Background
Mr. Md. Obaidur Rahman graduated in Management from the University of Dhaka and holds an MBA in Management from the same institution. He also earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Personnel Management from the Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM). A career civil servant with 30 years of experience, Mr. Rahman has served in diverse administrative and regulatory roles across the Bangladesh Civil Service, with leadership in Intellectual Property, Public Administration, and Industrial Governance.
Date of appointment to BATB Board
Mr. Rahman was appointed as a Non-Executive Director to the Board of Directors of BAT Bangladesh on 29th April 2025.
Achievements
Mr. Rahman is a distinguished member of the Bangladesh Civil Service with three decades of experience in governance, regulatory affairs, and institutional reform. His career spans both field-level leadership and central policymaking.
He played a pivotal role in modernizing Bangladesh’s intellectual property system during his tenure at the Department of Patents & Design. As Secretary of the Non-Government Teacher Registration & Certification Authority, he led reforms that improved transparency and efficiency in teacher certification. In his current role as Secretary of the Ministry of Industries, he oversees national industrial policy, regulatory frameworks, and innovation strategy.
Mr. Rahman has completed advanced training programs in Sweden, Japan, Singapore, China, India, and Australia, focusing on intellectual property rights, public sector governance, and commercialization of IP assets. His international exposure has strengthened his ability to align Bangladesh’s regulatory systems with global standards.
